Tim Walz Pushes the Minnesota Hot Dish to the Top of the Polls

This week none other than Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’s vice-presidential pick, resurfaced not only a traditional Minnesota dish but also brought into the national limelight his favorite recipe for a Turkey Trot Tater-Tot Hotdish.

The Great Minnesota Hot Dish

Cookbook Author Karen Corbett says, “If you enjoy Tim Walz’s Turkey Trot Tater Tot hot dish, you may also enjoy the Turkey Tater Hot Dish on page 85 of our The Great Minnesota Hot Dish cookbook.”

When people think of the North Star State, their first thoughts probably relate to lakes or winter, but the cookbook recipes in The Great Minnesota Hot Dish introduce another of the state’s staples: the one-dish-complete-meal system. Called a casserole in most parts of the country, the hot dish is simple, practical, and delicious.

A hot dish is delicious at any time, but winter is the perfect season to bring out grandmother’s recipes.
Hot dish is a tradition throughout the Midwest, but in Minnesota, it’s legendary. In print since the year 2000, Theresa Millang’s The Great Minnesota Hot Dish has been the go-to source for this comfort food for years. Whether you call it a casserole or a hot dish, whether you live in the Land of 10,000 Lakes or beyond, you’re sure to put these cookbook recipes to good use.
